Optical amplification without population inversion at 391nm in N₂+ air laser

We have theoretically shown that the 391nm optical gain is susceptible
to the degree of population inversion within N₂+ vibrational states
manipulated by the Ramsey technique [Opt. Lett. 45, 6587 (2020)]. This
study provides not only the physical picture of producing population
inversion in N₂+ but also versatile methods for coherent control of
N₂+ air laser. In contrast to the above scenario, we further propose a
scheme producing amplification without inversion at 391nm in N₂+ air
laser.
