Reduction of Residual Stress and Surface Roughness for Preparing Optical Long-Wave Pass Filters

Two kinds of long-wave pass filters (LWPF) were designed and prepared by an electron beam evaporation with ion-beam assisted deposition. The residual stress was -0.077 GPa and surface roughness was 2.24 nm for 19-layer LWPF. The residual stress was -0.193 GPa and surface roughness was 2.11 nm for 29-layer LWPF.

Design of Polarization-Engineered Tunnel Junctions

A newly designed InGaN/AlGaN multi-layer tunnel junction based on polarization engineering is proposed and systemically investigated. The simulation results demonstrate that excellent tunneling characteristics for this polarization-engineered InGaN/AlGaN multi-layer tunnel junction can be achieved owing to increased surface density, electric field and band bending in tunnel junction.

Oscillation Dynamics in Q-switched Vortex Lasers formed by the coherent superposition of off-axis multiple pass resonating modes

Periodic oscillation, aperiodic oscillation and their mixture were observed in vortex Q-switched laser and identified by phase space representation. Through the coherent coupling and competitions among the modes, Q-switched pulses in modes are anti-phased and leads to unusual second harmonic generation pumped by vortex laser.

Development of a Double-diffraction grating interferometer for Measuring In-Plane and Out-of-Plane Displacements

This study proposed a novel grating interferometer combined with heterodyne interferometry, double-diffracting optical path and coplanar detection technology. Based on the above technical advantages, this system can simultaneously measure the double-degree-of-freedom displacement under a few optical components. It has high resolution and excellent measurement performance for in-plane and out-of-plane displacement.

Package analysis for UVC-LED

This study is to design the deep ultraviolet UVC-LED package structure. Important thing is improve the light extraction and heat dissipation design.The result shows that the efficiency is closely related to the package width and it reaches 85% with the 96% substrate reflectivity and 6 mm width.

An optical design for automated optical inspection (AOI) is presented. There are nine optical components in the designed, where 2 aspheric ones included. The magnification varies from 0.025 to 0.14, and MTF no smaller than 70% at 47 lp/mm and 30% at 142 lp/mm. Performance test results are also presented.

Broadband Light Reflection Induced by Chiral Monomer in Cholesteric Liquid Crystals

We demonstrate a broad light reflection in cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) using chiral monomers. After ultraviolet radiation, chiral monomers create a pitch-gradient distribution of the polymer network and broaden the reflection band of CLCs. An ultra-broad bandwidth covering the whole visible spectrum was achieved with 6 % chiral monomers.

In this study, we utilized a designated coded aperture instead of imaging lens to build up an imaging system with TFT-sensor. The coded aperture could be regarded as an unconventional imaging lens. Through the light-driven self-assembly of gold nanorods, the single-crystalline gold nanowires were synthesized by the irradiation of a linearly-polarized(LP) laser. The process was conducted in a droplet of gold colloid on a glass irradiated by a LP near-infrared low-power laser at room temperature and atmospheric pressure without any chemical additive.

Wavelength-modulated Confocal Interferometry for Thickness and Refractive Index Measurements

This paper proposes a new mathematical model that can simultaneously measure the thickness and refractive index of objects. With self-developed optical frequency coherence scanning, the experimental results show that the thickness measurement can be automated, the resolution is about 5 μm and the refractive index resolution is about 0.0045.

Glucose concentration measurement with transmission type heterodyne interferometer

In this study, an enzymatic modified cuvette was fabricated and adopts to measure the glucose concentration with heterodyne interferometer. The results indicated that the resolution of the proposed method was approximated of 3 mg/dl. The calibration curve showed high linearity within the dynamic range of 0 ~ 500 mg/dl.
