EXHIBITION INFORMATION: | Having went through millennia of fusion and evolution, Eastern culture has shaped the unique Eastern spirit and depths, taking root in various forms. In Fu Gui Tau Yuan’s “Depths of the East” exhibition, the ten featured artists - Wang Shin-yu, Lu Chih-jung, Lin Lung-chieh, Hsu Chung-en, Chen Shao-yi, Chen Chih-chiang, Chen Wei-chen, Fu Yung-ti, Huang Min-cheng, and Liu Jung-hui - demonstrate their distinct personal styles, thoughts, and ideas to explore a shared Eastern spirit and cultural depths. Among the ten artists is Lin Lung-chieh, who won the Recommendation Award at the 2017 Next Art Tainan, the McKnight Distinguished Artist Award from the McKnight Foundation in Minnesota, U.S.A, the Silver Award at the Second New Taipei City Ceramics Awards, and the Special Jury Prize at the Seventh Taiwan Golden Ceramics Awards. Another is Chen Shao-yi, who graduated from the ceramics program of the Graduate Institute of Applied Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts. She was in official selection at the 2014 Talente Competition in Germany, won Second Place at the 2012 Miaoli Ceramics Awards, and won First Prize for the Thematic Design Award at the 2011 Taipei Ceramics Awards. Still another is Mr. Chen Chih-chiang, who won the First Prize for Creative Awards at last year’s Taiwan Ceramics Awards, First Place in the craft category of the Twentieth Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition in Taichung, and the Silver Award for Innovation in the Second New Taipei City Ceramics Awards. Artists in the “Depths of the East” joint exhibition highlights the functionality, spirituality, and diversity of their medium, creating forms of abstraction and realism that embody the expressions of inner being valued in traditional Eastern cultures. We hope to guide viewers in experiencing the emotions within and appreciate the profundity of the Eastern spirit. |
