EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

Tamba ware comes from one of Japan’s six old kilns, from late Heian period to early Kamakura period. Because the kiln is located in Tachikui, Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, the ceramics is also known as Tachikui ware. The serene countryside scenery of Tachikui birthed the natural, simple ceramic culture of Tamba ware. In addition to traditional firing in climbing kilns, a new generation of ceramic artists are using expressions of glaze to diversify their works. Among them is artist Masafumi Onishi. In addition to traditional Tamba ware fired in climbing kilns, he experiments with various colors of glaze to give his works a range of expressions. This time, Deco Play invited Masafumi Onishi for a ceramic art solo exhibition for ceramics enthusiasts to immerse in the charm of Tamba ware while appreciating outstanding works both traditional and contemporary.
