Qing Ciou Studio

Founded in 2016 and situated at an alley at Qingtian Street, Da-an district, in Taipei, Qing Ciou Studio got its name from the seal carving work of artist Xiao-yu. The building was built in the 1940s and was the former residence of Yen-Chiu Hung, professor at the Department of Chinese Literature, National Taiwan University, and former president of Mandarin Daily News. The building was later taken over by Caves Gallery in 2015 for renovation, which took over a year, and the operator was in charge of its design and supervised construction. Exhibition space was planned, a series of courses and lectures have been held, and art exhibitions have been curated to fuse art aesthetics with tea culture and to create a cozy tea house/art space with its unique cultural features.

EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

In our busy urban lives, we are increasingly yearning for the quiet, simple life of ancient scholars. At Qing Ciou Studio, we embody the appreciation of tea, tea ware, paintings, and fragrance, offering visitors a way to pursue their own taste. Life’s respite is actually all around us.

Tang Kuo-liang graduated from the sculpture department of National Taiwan Junior Art College and has been working with ceramics for more than thirty years, known in ceramic circles as a prolific artist who is committed to educating future generations. Tang often applies his design styles to marine creatures as well as everyday objects. In addition to presenting diversity by combining various glazing, engraving, and painting techniques with clay or porcelain, he serves users’ needs by offering them high quality, variety of choices, and affordable prices. He believes that everyday ceramics is for everyday use, and he hopes for collectors to experience his perspective on the beauty in life by using the ceramics.

Lai Lin-lin graduated from the Crafts and Design Department of National Taiwan University of Arts. She began studying ceramics when she was a student and took inspiration from the pet cat and dog, Xiao Mi and Xiao Pang, in her home. In 2016, she established her personal brand “Gallery Nekonomise.” In 2017, her first solo exhibition “Lin Lin’s Ceramic Cat Exhibition” opened in Qing Ciou Studio Tea Salon. Her works of ceramic cats and dogs inspired by her own pets embody her distinct personal style, emanating happiness and warmth and soothing the hearts of many.

Good art does not require forceful visual expressions or techniques, nor does it require explanatory text. It can convey the artist’s stories and emotions on its own.
