EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

In September 2018, the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) will hold its congress in Taiwan, and Fu-Gui Sanyi takes part in the IAC satellite exhibitions to help the Taiwanese audience and members of IAC further understand Taiwan’s history of ceramic art and culture through these exhibitions and trips that connect them, while learning to appreciate ceramic artists of various cultures and nationalities.

For the “Contemporary Reflections: Finnish Ceramic Art” joint exhibition at Fu-Gui Sanyi, we have sixteen artists of distinct personal styles who are Finnish IAC members - Erna Aaltonen, Åsa Hellman, Catharina Kajander, Min-Kyoung Kim, Kirsi Kivivirta, Maarit Mäkelä, Nathalie Lautenbacher, Leena Mäki-Patola, Pekka Paikkari, Suck-Woo Park (Suku Park), Päivi Rintaniemi, Johanna Rytkölä, Satu Syrjänen, Kati Tuominen-Niittylä, Karin Widnäs, and Tapio Yli-Viikari. By connecting the artists’ thoughts and ideas, we aim to present the artists’ inner spirit and cultural depths.

The sixteen Finnish artists featured in this exhibition demonstrate their unique styles and traits through their works. One of the artists is Kirsi Kivivirta, born in 1959 in Finland. A graduate from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, she is an accomplished ceramic artist and a member of IAC. In 2017, she received the Ornamo Award from Ornamo Art and Design Finland. Her work is characteristic of the contemporary ceramics culture in Finland. Another notable artist is Suck Woo Park (Suku Park), who was a director of the IAC in Geneva Switzerland and the art director of the Arctic Clay Symposium in Posio, Finland and is the art director of the Arctic Ceramics Center in Posio, Finland.

The Taiwanese audience will be able to gaze into the diversity in Finnish ceramic art in our “Contemporary Reflections” exhibition.
