Starry Tower Pottery Studio

Li, Chin-Sheng (李金生) and Hsu, Ming-Hsiang (許明香) established their ceramic studio in 1990, which was dedicated to create ceramic artworks that were inspired by everyday life. Both of their works are very nostalgic and are devoted to express their care for traditional culture. To promote their art career, they opened a gallery in Yingge in 2011. For the last few decades, they have focused on creating ceramic sculptures, creative design products, and tea ware. Li and Hsu’s work not only shares their emotions with viewers, but also delivers their life philosophy.

EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

“Saṃtati” is a Buddhist term meaning continuity. Every incarnation of a person is a part of a continuity. In addition to the individual, future generations also become a continuation in the cycle of karma. This is a joint ceramic art exhibition of two artists and their daughter, who present their own aesthetic experiences from different eras.

Both Li Jin-sheng, whose subjects are people, and Hsu Ming-hsiang, who reminisces about architectural environments, exquisitely captures their childhood memories of the nineteen-sixties and seventies in Taiwan, which resonates with viewers, who also recall their most genuine and purest memories.

As opposed to her usual meticulousness and realistic depictions, Hsu Ming-hsiang’s works in this exhibition brings the elements of bricks and tiles of traditional architecture into modern furniture. Their daughter Li Shan-yin, on the other hand, incorporates modern elements of simple designs and bold colors into the millennia-old Chinese tea culture, hoping to introduce this valuable legacy to more young people and show them that tea ceremonies can be fashionable.
