EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

Fuel for my wood-fired works are mostly driftwood and scrap wood. The works are not glazed, and they are fired at 1260 to 1350°C. The firing process typically takes three days and two nights, approximately 70 hours.

Achieving good results with wood-fired ceramics is challenging, as there are many factors to consider - types of clay, fuel, firing method, temperature, atmosphere, climate, and the attitude of the ceramist. Because of these uncertainties, unique works are created, and this is the charm of wood firing. - Wu Shu-ling

Every ceramist want to produce unique works, and the “starry glaze” tenmoku is Chen Ming-kun’s new creation. Flowing glaze is common with tenmoku. We often see glaze adhering to the bottoms of Song dynasty tenmoku cups. However, Chen Ming-kun controls his glazing perfectly, without adhesion. The flowing glaze accumulates close to the bottoms of cups in a form that resembles teardrops, creating a new kind of aesthetics. -Lu Jie-min, “Heritage and Innovation: On Chen Ming-kun’s Tenmoku Art and Cultural Aesthetics.”
