Engineering Light-Matter Interactions at the Nanoscale
Kenneth B. Crozier

This presentation reviews work carried out in recent years by the Crozier group on the topic of engineering light-matter interactions in optical nanotweezers and in nanowire photodetectors.

Fluorescent Microdiamond Particles Conjugated with Hollow Gold Nanoparticles as Photothermal Fiducial Markers in Tissue

Dual functions—photo-thermal therapy and fluorescent imaging—of the surface-functionalized fluorescent microdiamonds (FMDs) with hollow gold nanoparticles (HGNs) were performed when applying the distinct excitation laser wavelengths, respectively. HGNs absorbed the excitation light to perform in light-to-heat conversion; generated heat passed through FMDs to provide homogeneous and global heating effect.

Plasmonic Tip Enhanced Raman scattering

Here, plasmonic tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy was performed on a non-conductive substrate which is the limitation of the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) based TERS in gap mode configuration. By plasmonic tip, we could simultaneously achieve optical resolution and spectroscopic identification around 20 nm in real space.

Polarization Dependent Multi-Direction Surface Plasmon Polariton Steering.
Dhruv Tyagi;C.B. Huang

In this work, we numerically and experimentally demonstrate a functional plasmonic metasurface designed to achieve multi-directional SPP steering. Depending on the polarization of the exciting light source, SPPs can be directed to at least seven unidirectional states and one split state.

Modulation of plasmonic nanolasers based on graphene
Chu-Yuan Hsu;Jhu-hong Li;Heng Li;Kuo-Bin Hong;Tien-Chang Lu

In this work, we make a surface plasmon polariton nanolaser on graphene which can be modulated by supplied current through graphene while optically pumped. By giving different current, we succeed in turning plasmonic nanolaser on and off for the first time.

Compare with the traditional bulk optical elements, metasurfaces provide a new perspective on shaping the electromagnetic field by manipulating the phase. Here we demonstrated a GaN-based achromatic metalens working in transmission type. The working wavelength is from 400 to 660 nm. Furthermore, the full-colour images taken by our achromatic metalens.
