Flat Temperature Sensor based on Fiber Bragg Gratings
Dong-Lin Tsai;Teng-Lung Wang;Hung-Ying Chang;Ming-Yue Fu;Wen-Fung Liu

A plane temperature sensor based on twenty-one fiber Bragg gratings is proposed. These gratings are glued on the flat architecture for sensing the temperature in different positions by means of the grating wavelength shift.

Polymer Fiber Fizeau Interferometer for Relative Humidity and Temperature Measurement
Jen Yao Chang;Cheng Ling Lee

This work proposes a simple, sensitive polymer fiber Fizeau interferometer (PFFI) to measure the relative humidity (RH) and temperature (T) of the surrounding. The used NOA61-polymer has inherently excellent porous structure and high thermal expansion coefficient so it can achieve high sensitivity to parameters of RH as well as T.

Acid and Alkaline Sensors Based on Optical Fibers
Wei-Ting Hung;Fang-Kuei Liou;Hung-Ying Chang;Ming-Yue Fu Fu;Wen-Fung Liu

A new acid and alkaline senor based on multimode fibers is proposed in this research. The color change of liquid after reaction between test solution and acid-base indicator which will be measured by the sensor. By observing changes in visible light spectrum to obtain the pH of liquid.

Fiber Bragg Grating Based on the arc discharge technique
Hsin Yu Lin;Fang Kuei Liou;Hung Ying Chang;Cheng Wen Wu;Wen Fung Liu

This paper proposes a novel fiber Bragg grating sensor fabricated by an arc-discharge technique in a fiber gating to decay a small part of grating to cause two different reflected wavelengths and then to form a Fabry-Pérot resonant cavity for simultaneously measuring the strain and temperature.

Scalar Approximation of Full-Vector Dielectric Waveguide Modes using Mixed Interface Conditions
Hung-Wen Chang;Sin-Yuan Mu;Meng-Kai Hsu

Dielectric waveguide is a full-vector problem. We demonstrate how to compute, with improved accuracy, the propagation constant based on scalar approximation using just a transverse magnetic field component. Numerical results show an increase of two significant digits based on our proposed mixed TE and TM like interface conditions.

Zong-Wen Lu
Bidirectional Transmission System Using Fiber Bragg Grating And Wavelength Multiplexing
Zong-Wen Lu

A bidirectional transmission system based on passive optical network and wavelength reuse technology is proposed and demonstrated. One is central carrier and the other is subcarrier. The subcarrier signal transports data from optical line terminal to optical network unit by 25 km single mode fiber transmission.

Chen-Yi Yu
Optical Filtering based on waveguide-fed metasurface
Chen-Yi Yu;Guan-Yi Kuo;Chih-Ming Wang

A Au metasurface embedded on a SiO2 waveguide is proposed as an optical filter. The resonant bandwidth of proposed structure is narrower than that of a metamaterial-based filter, while the angular tolerance is much higher than that of a guided mode resonant filter.
