Effect of paper material and color temperature on reading clarity and retina safety
Hsiao-Ching Hung;Ying-Chieh Lin;Chu-hsiang Hsu;Hsin-Fa Lin;Ming-Li Chou;Jwo-Huei Jou

Our results show that paper material does not affect reading clarity and retina safety. However, the color temperature has a profound effect on retina safety. Specifically, the candlelight-style 2000K light-source is 2.3 times safer than the 4,200K.

Han-Sheng Xie

A high-resolution total-internal-reflection (TIR) phase-shifting interferometry is proposed for measuring the two-dimensional (2D) refractive index distribution of a material. The proposed method has merits of simple structure, and high resolution.

The Correction of the Image Distortion for the Reflecting Type Head-Up-Display (HUD)
Yu-Jun Pan;Bing-Mau Chen;Shang-Ping Ying

For the use of Head-Up-Display (HUD) system, the reflecting type is known as small volume, high brightness and low aberration than the other types. In this study, the image distortion of the projected image on the combiner with different position and magnification of the reflecting type HUD will be investigated.

Biological Tissue Polarization Feature Enhancement Technique by Using Multi-Wavelength Structured Light Illumination
Meng-Ting Chen;Chih-Wei Kuo;Romain Jouynes;Chien-Yuan Han

In this work, a multi-wavelength light source with both parallel and perpendicular polarization is used to illuminate the intraoral region of a pig. The shape information of the teeth can be deduced by structured light technique can the depth of the gingiva also can be identified by two different wavelengths.

Freeform surface lens design with uniformity and collimation in laser beam shaping system
Chen-Gang Wu;Zong-Xian Jiang;Zong-Xian Jiang

We design a freeform surface lens in an optical system using for the output with uniform and collimation. We use the method of numerical analysis and calculating with Matlab by geometric optical for every ray, and set up a freeform surface lens and a laser source in Zemax to simulate.

High resolution multi-band spectrometer
Jyh Rou Sze;An Chi Wei;Chun Fu Lin;Da Ren Liu

A new advanced optical design based on the crossed Czerny-Turner mounting for multiple inspection bands spectrometer with high resolution is presented. By the addition of two movable mirrors and a stationary mirror in the optical system, the calculated results leads to thrice the spectral range of the original C-T spectrometer.

Effects of screen setting on browsing clarity and health
Tzu-Chieh Hsu;Nai-Hsuan Kuo;Yu-Ning Yao;Wen-Jun Lin;Wan-Yun Yang;Ming-Li Chou;Jwo-Huei Jou

Prolonged screen watching might damage human eyes and body especially at night. The damage may be minimized by adjusting screen settings. We find that yellow text on black background is 10.5 times safer on retina protection and 1.3 times safer on melatonin generation, as comparing with the typical screen setting.
