About SRI

International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation (SRI) is a unique, large and the most significant international forum held every three years in the community of  synchrotron radiation (SR) and X-ray free  electron laser (XFEL).  This triennial conference is the prime forum to highlight connections between synchrotron radiation instrumentation, science, and society. It also provides opportunities for discussion and collaborations among scientists and  engineers around the world involved in development of new concepts, techniques, and instruments related to synchrotron radiation and free electron laser research.


With over 30 years of history, SRI has a long-standing record since the first meeting in Hamburg, Germany in 1982. Subsequent meetings were hosted by countries with the most advanced light source facilities in Europe, America and Asia-Pacific region by turns,  organized by the community of worldwide SR and XFEL facilities. The determination of the host country is decided by the SRI International Advisory Committee, consists of the representatives of worldwide facilities from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan,  Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the USA and the UK. Over the past years, the cities and countries of hosting SRI Conference include SRI  2015 (12th SRI, NYC, USA), SRI 2012 (11th SRI, Lyon, France), SRI 2009 (10th SRI, Melbourne, Australia), SRI 2006 (9th SRI, Daegu, Korea), SRI 2003 (8th SRI, San Francisco, California, USA), SRI 2000 (7th SRI, Berlin, Germany), SRI 1997 (6th SRI, Himeji,  Japan), SRI 1994 (5th SRI, Woodbury, New York, USA), SRI 1991 (4th SRI, Chester, UK), SRI 1988 (3rd SRI, Tsukuba, Japan), SRI 1985 (2nd SRI, Stanford, California) and SRI 1982 (1st SRI, Hamburg, Germany).


In particular, SRI 2018 has an exciting program designed to foster discussion around the latest innovations in instrumentation,  techniques and  engineering.  Its  topics include facility development, spectroscopy and in-site/operando methods, imaging and structural characterization, beamlines, optics, detector as well as recent activities in data acquisition, management and storage. It will deliver an impressive lineup of plenary speakers and will bring together worldwide researchers and engineers at the forefront of their fields to highlight the most exciting science and technology enabled by the development of cutting-edge instrumentation and methodologies at synchrotron and free electron laser light source facilities. In addition, a comprehensive exhibition program will showcase up-to-date technology and equipment by a large  group of vendors in the synchrotron instrumentation business. Undoubtedly, SRI 2018 will be the emergence of new avenues in the accelerator-based light source and related techniques.
